CEQA Project Manager
CEQA Project Manager
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced CEQA Project Manager to lead environmental review projects from inception through to completion. This role will suit a confident environmental professional with strong knowledge of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), excellent project management skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients, consultants, regulators and local communities.
You will manage a varied portfolio of complex development and infrastructure projects, ensuring that environmental assessments are technically robust, legally compliant and delivered to agreed timescales and budgets. The role requires a practical, solutions-focused approach, as well as the ability to communicate complex environmental matters clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the preparation, review and delivery of CEQA documents, including Initial Studies, Negative Declarations, Mitigated Negative Declarations and Environmental Impact Reports.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, specialist consultants, technical studies and stakeholder contributions.
- Develop project scopes, programmes, budgets and quality assurance procedures.
- Provide strategic advice on environmental constraints, permitting requirements, project risks and potential mitigation measures.
- Prepare and review technical reports, public notices, consultation materials and responses to comments.
- Attend client, agency, public and community meetings, presenting findings and responding to questions with confidence.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting CEQA and communicate relevant updates to project teams and clients.
- Support business development through proposal preparation, fee estimates and client presentations.
About you
You will have proven experience managing CEQA projects within an environmental consultancy, planning practice, public authority or related organisation. A degree in environmental science, planning, ecology, geography, engineering or a comparable discipline is preferred, alongside substantial experience preparing or overseeing CEQA documentation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain high professional standards. Familiarity with environmental planning, impact assessment methodologies and relevant federal, state and local regulations would be highly advantageous. The successful candidate will be organised, collaborative and commercially aware, with a genuine commitment to delivering sustainable, well-considered outcomes.
