CEQA Project Manager
CEQA Project Manager
An experienced CEQA Project Manager is required to lead the delivery of environmental review projects across a varied portfolio of development, infrastructure and planning proposals. This is an opportunity for a knowledgeable environmental professional to manage projects from initial assessment through to statutory consultation, documentation and approval.
You will act as a trusted adviser to clients, project teams, consultants and regulatory stakeholders, ensuring that work is technically robust, commercially well managed and delivered in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The role requires strong organisational skills, sound judgement and the confidence to coordinate multiple contributors and competing deadlines.
Key responsibilities
- Manage CEQA projects, including Initial Studies, Negative Declarations, Mitigated Negative Declarations and Environmental Impact Reports.
- Develop project programmes, scopes, budgets and resource plans, monitoring progress and addressing risks proactively.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary technical studies, environmental assessments, impact analysis and mitigation measures.
- Prepare, review and quality-assure environmental documentation and supporting technical reports.
- Lead consultation with public agencies, community representatives, project proponents and specialist advisers.
- Support public meetings, hearings and responses to comments, ensuring issues are recorded and addressed appropriately.
- Provide clear advice on CEQA compliance, permitting requirements, project constraints and potential environmental risks.
- Contribute to business development, proposals, fee estimates and the development of client relationships.
About you
You will have substantial experience managing CEQA projects within an environmental consultancy, planning practice, public agency or related professional environment. A strong understanding of CEQA regulations, guidelines, case law and environmental planning principles is essential. Experience with NEPA, permitting processes or related environmental legislation would be advantageous.
You should be educated to degree level in environmental science, planning, geography, natural resources or a related discipline. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, together with the ability to explain complex technical matters to non-specialist audiences. Professional accreditation or membership of a relevant environmental or planning body would be beneficial.
The successful candidate will be collaborative, commercially aware and highly organised, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
