You will oversee the full project lifecycle, from early development and design through to construction, testing, commissioning and handover. Working closely with clients, contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders, you will establish effective governance and maintain clear accountability across multidisciplinary teams.
Key responsibilities
- Provide leadership for conventional signalling projects, including relay, interlocking, colour light and related train control systems.
- Set project strategies, delivery plans, budgets, milestones and performance measures.
- Manage design, engineering assurance, construction, testing and commissioning activities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant railway standards, legislation, safety requirements and assurance processes.
- Lead risk, issue, change and dependency management across the programme.
- Develop strong relationships with clients, supply chain partners, regulators and project stakeholders.
- Monitor commercial performance, resource requirements and programme progress, taking corrective action where necessary.
- Promote a positive safety culture and support continuous improvement in delivery methods and technical capability.
About you
You will be a senior rail professional with substantial experience delivering conventional signalling projects in a complex operational or infrastructure environment. A strong understanding of signalling principles, engineering assurance, testing and commissioning is essential, together with a track record of managing major programmes, technical teams and supply chain relationships.
Excellent communication, influencing and decision-making skills are required, as is the ability to balance strategic priorities with detailed delivery requirements. You should be commercially aware, highly organised and confident working within regulated environments. Relevant professional qualifications or membership of an appropriate engineering or rail institution would be advantageous.
This is an opportunity to shape high-profile signalling programmes, develop capable teams and contribute to the safe, reliable modernisation of rail infrastructure.
