Environmental Planner I
Environmental Planner I
We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-focused Environmental Planner I to support the delivery of environmental planning projects across a range of development and infrastructure schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at an early stage of their career to build practical experience while contributing to sustainable, legally compliant outcomes.
Working with planners, engineers, consultants and other stakeholders, you will assist with the assessment of environmental constraints and opportunities from project inception through to approval and delivery. You will help prepare clear, evidence-based advice and develop your understanding of environmental legislation, planning policy and best practice.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake environmental research, site reviews and baseline data collection.
- Assist with environmental impact assessments, screening and scoping exercises.
- Support the preparation of technical reports, planning documents, environmental statements and consultation materials.
- Review relevant legislation, policies, guidance and environmental data sources.
- Coordinate information from technical specialists and contribute to multidisciplinary project teams.
- Attend site visits, meetings and consultations, recording actions and following up on agreed requirements.
- Maintain accurate project records, programmes and document control systems.
- Communicate professionally with clients, regulators, contractors and members of the public.
About you
You will have a degree or equivalent qualification in environmental planning, environmental science, geography, ecology, sustainability or a related discipline. Some relevant work experience, including internships, placements or graduate project work, would be advantageous. A working knowledge of the UK planning system and environmental assessment processes is desirable.
You should be able to organise competing tasks, analyse information carefully and present findings in a clear and accessible way. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with confidence using standard Microsoft Office applications. A willingness to learn, a collaborative approach and a commitment to high-quality work are equally important.
What is offered
You will receive structured support, opportunities for professional development and exposure to varied projects. The role offers a positive environment in which to develop technical, project management and stakeholder engagement skills while helping to shape responsible and sustainable places.
