Water Resources Engineer
An exciting opportunity is available for a Water Resources Engineer to support the planning, design and delivery of sustainable water management projects. This role will suit a technically minded professional who can apply sound engineering judgement, analyse complex information and develop practical solutions for clients, communities and the environment.
You will contribute to projects covering flood risk management, drainage, water supply, river restoration, catchment planning and climate resilience. Working collaboratively with engineers, environmental specialists, planners and external stakeholders, you will help deliver high-quality technical work from initial feasibility through to detailed design and implementation.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake hydrological and hydraulic assessments, flood risk studies and drainage strategies.
- Develop calculations, models, drawings, specifications and technical reports in accordance with relevant standards and guidance.
- Support the design of sustainable drainage systems, flood alleviation schemes, water infrastructure and nature-based solutions.
- Interpret survey data, rainfall records, flow data, mapping and other technical information to inform engineering decisions.
- Assist with site inspections, risk assessments, construction support and technical reviews.
- Communicate findings clearly to colleagues, clients, regulators and other stakeholders.
- Manage agreed tasks, budgets and timescales while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety and environmental performance.
About you
You will have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, water engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant professional experience. Experience using hydraulic modelling software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, InfoWorks ICM or equivalent would be advantageous. Familiarity with GIS, CAD and data analysis tools is also desirable.
We are looking for someone with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team. You should be organised, commercially aware and committed to delivering technically robust, sustainable outcomes.
Professional development is encouraged, with opportunities to broaden your project experience and work towards chartership or further professional accreditation. A full driving licence may be required for occasional site visits.
