Hydraulics Project Engineer – Team Lead

We are seeking an experienced Hydraulics Project Engineer to lead the delivery of complex hydraulic engineering projects from initial concept through to commissioning. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong professional who can combine hands-on engineering expertise with effective team leadership, project coordination and client communication.

You will take responsibility for developing practical, compliant and cost-effective hydraulic solutions across a range of projects. Working closely with design, manufacturing, procurement and site teams, you will ensure that technical requirements are clearly defined and delivered to the required quality, budget and programme.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage hydraulic engineering projects, ensuring delivery against agreed timescales, budgets and technical standards.
  • Produce and review hydraulic calculations, system designs, specifications, schematics and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate project activities across internal teams, suppliers, contractors and clients.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to engineers and other project team members.
  • Identify project risks, resolve technical issues and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Support equipment selection, procurement, factory acceptance testing, installation and commissioning.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, health and safety requirements and quality procedures.
  • Contribute to tender responses, estimates, project reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

About you

You will have proven experience in hydraulic engineering and project delivery, ideally within an industrial, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure or similar technical environment. A degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering, hydraulic engineering or a related discipline is desirable, along with demonstrable experience leading projects or supervising engineering teams.

You should be confident interpreting technical requirements, managing priorities and communicating with stakeholders at all levels. Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, pipework, pumps, valves, control systems and relevant design practices is essential. Experience with engineering software, project management tools and risk assessment methodologies would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be organised, commercially aware and solutions-focused, with a collaborative leadership style and a commitment to engineering excellence. This role may involve occasional travel to customer sites, suppliers or project locations.
