We are seeking an experienced Water Facilities Technical Leader to provide specialist technical leadership across pump stations, hydraulics, water and wastewater conveyance, and piping design. This is a senior role for a technically strong professional who can lead the development and delivery of complex infrastructure solutions from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors and technical specialists to ensure designs are safe, practical, compliant and fit for purpose.
Your responsibilities will include defining design strategies, preparing and reviewing hydraulic models, calculations, specifications, drawings and technical reports, and overseeing the design of pumping systems, pipelines, rising mains, gravity sewers, chambers, valves and associated mechanical and civil infrastructure. You will provide technical assurance and independent review, identify risks and design interfaces, support optioneering and whole-life cost assessments, and contribute to project planning, fee estimates and resource management. You will also help develop standards, procedures and innovative solutions, while mentoring engineers and promoting consistent technical excellence across projects.
Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil, mechanical, water engineering or a related discipline, together with substantial experience delivering water and wastewater infrastructure projects. You will have a strong understanding of pump station design, hydraulic principles, transient analysis, pipeline systems, pumping equipment and relevant UK standards, regulations and industry guidance. Experience with hydraulic modelling software and design packages is desirable, as is professional registration or a clear commitment towards achieving it. Excellent communication, coordination and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly and influence decisions at all levels. A proactive, collaborative approach and a commitment to health, safety, quality and sustainable design are required.
