Project Manager - Hydrology and Hydraulics
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Hydrology and Hydraulics to lead the delivery of technically complex water, drainage and flood risk management projects. You will manage projects from initial brief through to design, approvals, construction support and completion, ensuring that scope, programme, budget, quality and safety requirements are met. The role will involve working across multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with clients, contractors, regulators, local authorities and other stakeholders.
Key responsibilities will include preparing and managing project plans, budgets, risk registers and technical deliverables; overseeing hydrological and hydraulic assessments; reviewing flood risk studies, drainage strategies, catchment modelling and water management designs; and ensuring that outputs are accurate, practical and compliant with relevant standards and legislation. You will provide technical direction, mentor project team members, manage subcontractors and consultants, and communicate progress and key decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. The successful candidate will also contribute to bids, proposals, business development and the continuous improvement of project delivery processes.
You will have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, water engineering, hydrology, hydraulics or a related discipline, together with substantial experience delivering water, drainage, flood risk or river engineering projects. Professional registration or progress towards chartered status is desirable. Strong knowledge of hydrological and hydraulic modelling tools, drainage design principles, flood risk assessment and relevant technical guidance is required. Experience managing budgets, programmes, teams and stakeholder relationships is essential, as is the ability to identify and resolve technical and commercial risks. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement and a collaborative approach are expected. A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites may be required.
