Staff Estimator – Aviation & Federal/Global Facilities
We are seeking an experienced Staff Estimator to support the planning and delivery of complex construction and infrastructure projects across aviation, federal and global facilities. This role will suit a commercially minded professional with strong analytical skills, detailed knowledge of construction methods and the ability to produce accurate estimates within demanding timescales.
Working closely with project managers, engineers, design teams, subcontractors and suppliers, you will develop cost plans and estimates from early concept through to tender and final delivery. You will review drawings, specifications and scope information, identify risks and opportunities, and ensure estimates reflect current market conditions, project constraints and client requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare detailed conceptual, preliminary and bid estimates for construction and facilities projects.
- Interpret design documentation, schedules and technical specifications to establish accurate quantities and costs.
- Obtain, assess and level quotations from subcontractors, suppliers and specialist vendors.
- Develop labour, material, plant, equipment, preliminaries and subcontract cost build-ups.
- Identify exclusions, assumptions, allowances, risks and value-engineering opportunities.
- Collaborate with project teams to validate scope, programme, logistics and constructability.
- Maintain estimating databases, cost histories and benchmarking information.
- Present estimates, pricing strategies and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support tender reviews, negotiations, cost reporting and handover to project delivery teams.
About you
You will have substantial estimating experience within construction, engineering, aviation, defence, government or major facilities environments. A degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in quantity surveying, construction management, engineering or a related discipline is desirable. Experience with commercial, industrial, civil, secure or technically complex projects would be advantageous.
You should be confident using estimating and take-off software, spreadsheets and relevant project management systems, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively while exercising sound commercial judgement. Eligibility to work on secure or government-related projects may be required.
