Estimator - Aviation & Federal Construction
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to support aviation and federal construction projects from early-stage concept through bid submission and project handoff. This role will be responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and well-documented estimates for a range of construction work, including airfield improvements, terminal facilities, infrastructure upgrades, secure government buildings, renovations, and associated civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and clients to ensure estimates reflect the full project requirements.
Key responsibilities include reviewing plans, specifications, solicitations, and contract documents; preparing quantity takeoffs; developing labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and general conditions pricing; obtaining and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotations; identifying scope gaps, risks, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities; and preparing clear bid proposals and supporting documentation. You will also participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, estimating reviews, schedule and constructability discussions, and turnover meetings. The position requires maintaining organized estimating records, updating cost databases, supporting change-order pricing, and contributing to post-bid analysis to improve future performance.
Qualified candidates will have several years of experience estimating commercial, aviation, infrastructure, or federal construction projects, with a strong understanding of construction means and methods, procurement, subcontracting, and project scheduling. Experience with government contracting, military or secure facilities, and requirements such as prevailing wage, bonding, certified payroll, small-business participation, or federal acquisition procedures is highly desirable. Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, digital takeoff tools, and standard office applications is required. Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and work effectively in a collaborative environment. A degree in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, or a related discipline is preferred, though equivalent practical experience will be considered. The ability to obtain any project-required security clearance or site access approval may be necessary.
