Design Manager
Design Manager
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead and coordinate design activity across a range of projects, ensuring that creative, technical and commercial requirements are delivered to a consistently high standard. This is an opportunity for a confident design professional who can combine strategic thinking with strong attention to detail and effective day-to-day leadership.
You will manage the design process from initial brief through to completion, working closely with internal teams, clients, consultants, suppliers and other stakeholders. You will be responsible for maintaining design quality, supporting delivery against agreed timescales and ensuring that work meets relevant standards, specifications and budgetary expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage design development across multiple projects and workstreams.
- Translate briefs, requirements and user needs into clear, practical design solutions.
- Coordinate designers, consultants and external partners, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Review drawings, specifications, models and other design information for quality, accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor progress, identify risks and resolve design issues before they affect delivery.
- Manage design reviews, approvals, change control and the maintenance of accurate project records.
- Contribute to planning, procurement, cost management and programme discussions where required.
- Support and mentor team members, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement.
About you
You will have proven experience in a design management, design coordination or comparable role, with a strong understanding of design processes and project delivery. You should be comfortable managing competing priorities, making informed decisions and presenting information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are essential, alongside a collaborative and proactive approach. Experience of relevant design software, project management systems and industry standards would be beneficial. A relevant degree, professional qualification or equivalent practical experience is desirable.
You will be expected to demonstrate sound judgement, commercial awareness and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes. In return, this role offers the opportunity to make a significant contribution to varied projects while developing your leadership and professional expertise.
