Senior Integrated Water Resource Planner / Engineer
Senior Integrated Water Resource Planner / Engineer
We are seeking an experienced water resources professional to lead the development of integrated, sustainable and resilient water management strategies. This role will suit a technically strong planner or engineer who can combine strategic thinking, sound analysis and practical delivery to address complex water resource challenges.
You will work across multidisciplinary teams and with a wide range of stakeholders to assess water availability, demand, environmental constraints and future risks. Your work will support long-term planning, investment decisions, regulatory compliance and the delivery of resilient water management solutions in a changing climate.
Key responsibilities
- Lead integrated water resource planning studies, options appraisals and strategic assessments.
- Develop and review water balance, demand forecasting, resource modelling and climate resilience assessments.
- Evaluate supply, demand management, operational and nature-based solutions, considering whole-life costs and environmental outcomes.
- Prepare clear technical reports, business cases, presentations and recommendations for senior decision-makers.
- Coordinate project activities, manage technical inputs and support delivery against agreed budgets, programmes and quality standards.
- Engage effectively with regulators, customers, communities, environmental bodies, consultants and delivery partners.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor less experienced colleagues, promoting knowledge sharing and consistent best practice.
About you
You will have a degree or equivalent qualification in water resources, civil or environmental engineering, hydrology, geography, environmental science or a related discipline. Professional membership or chartership, or demonstrable progress towards it, would be advantageous.
You should have substantial experience in water resources planning, catchment management, hydrology, infrastructure strategy or a closely related field. Familiarity with industry guidance, regulatory frameworks, environmental assessment and climate change adaptation is important. Experience using water resource or hydraulic modelling tools, data analysis techniques and geographical information systems would be beneficial.
Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills are essential. You will be comfortable working independently, explaining complex information to non-technical audiences and influencing decisions across competing priorities. In return, you will have the opportunity to shape high-profile projects and contribute to a more secure, sustainable and adaptable water future.
