An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced water resources professional to lead the development of integrated, sustainable solutions for complex water management challenges. This role will involve working across planning, engineering, environmental and stakeholder disciplines to support resilient water supplies, healthy catchments and long-term environmental outcomes.
You will contribute strategic insight and technical leadership across a varied portfolio of water resource planning and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be confident working with uncertainty, balancing competing demands and translating technical analysis into clear recommendations for decision-makers, regulators and wider stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage integrated water resource planning studies, options appraisals and investment cases.
- Assess water availability, demand, climate risks, drought resilience and environmental constraints.
- Develop and review water balance models, forecasts, scenarios and risk-based assessments.
- Identify and evaluate solutions including demand management, leakage reduction, water efficiency, catchment measures, transfers, storage and new infrastructure.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, business cases, presentations and regulatory submissions.
- Provide technical guidance to project teams and support the development of less experienced colleagues.
- Build effective relationships with regulators, local authorities, communities, environmental bodies and delivery partners.
- Manage project scope, budgets, programmes, risks and quality standards.
About you
You will hold a relevant degree or equivalent qualification in water resources, civil or environmental engineering, hydrology, geography or a related discipline. Professional registration, or demonstrable progress towards it, would be advantageous.
Applicants should have substantial experience in water resources planning, hydrology, environmental assessment or infrastructure strategy, together with strong analytical and report-writing skills. Experience of industry-standard modelling tools, data analysis techniques, regulatory frameworks and climate adaptation planning is desirable.
Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills are essential. You will be organised, commercially aware and able to make sound, evidence-based decisions while managing multiple priorities. A commitment to sustainability, environmental improvement and inclusive teamwork is expected.
