Stormwater/Water Resources Project Engineer
We are seeking a Stormwater/Water Resources Project Engineer to support the delivery of technically robust and sustainable drainage and water management solutions. This role will involve working across a variety of infrastructure, development and environmental projects, from initial feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, approvals, construction and completion. You will collaborate with engineers, planners, environmental specialists, clients, contractors and regulatory authorities to deliver practical outcomes that meet project, statutory and environmental requirements.
Key responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing stormwater management strategies, drainage assessments, hydraulic and hydrological models, flood risk assessments and water quality treatment designs. You will undertake site investigations, assess existing drainage networks, develop surface water management solutions and produce technical reports, calculations, drawings, specifications and tender documentation. The role will also involve coordinating project programmes and budgets, managing design inputs, reviewing technical work, supporting planning and approval processes, attending site meetings and providing construction-phase advice. You will be expected to identify risks, resolve design issues and communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, water resources engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant professional experience in stormwater, drainage, flood risk or hydraulic engineering. Experience using industry-standard hydraulic modelling and design software, such as InfoDrainage, TUFLOW, Flood Modeller, Civil 3D or similar platforms, would be advantageous. A sound understanding of UK drainage standards, planning requirements, flood risk guidance, sustainable drainage systems and water quality principles is essential. You should be organised, commercially aware and confident managing competing priorities, with strong written and verbal communication skills. Professional registration or progress towards chartership is desirable, alongside a commitment to technical quality, health and safety and sustainable engineering practice.
