Design Associate I - Industrial Wastewater/Environmental Engineering
We are seeking a Design Associate I to support the planning, design, and delivery of industrial wastewater and environmental engineering projects. This entry-level role is suited to an engineering graduate or early-career professional who is interested in wastewater treatment, water reuse, industrial process systems, and environmental compliance. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers while contributing to projects from initial assessment and concept development through detailed design, permitting, construction support, and commissioning.
Responsibilities will include preparing engineering calculations, process flow diagrams, equipment schedules, technical specifications, design reports, and permit documentation. You will assist with evaluating wastewater characteristics, treatment technologies, hydraulic systems, chemical feed systems, tanks, pumps, piping, and related infrastructure. The role may also involve reviewing drawings and submittals, supporting site investigations, collecting and interpreting field data, coordinating with clients and multidisciplinary project teams, and participating in construction observations or startup activities. You will be expected to maintain accurate project records, meet deadlines, and communicate technical information clearly in written reports and presentations.
A bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, chemical, or a related engineering discipline is required. Coursework, internship, or practical experience involving industrial wastewater treatment, water quality, environmental permitting, process engineering, or engineering design is highly desirable. Candidates should have strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and collaborate effectively. Familiarity with engineering software, spreadsheets, computer-aided design tools, and technical documentation is beneficial. Professional Engineer-in-Training status, or progress toward obtaining it, is an advantage. The position may require occasional travel to industrial facilities, treatment plants, and construction sites, along with the ability to work safely in field environments.
