Reference: dccanml3vfc80jzw2wqm

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the design delivery of major water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Working across multidisciplinary teams, you will oversee design development from concept through to construction and completion, ensuring solutions are safe, practical, compliant and delivered to the required standards. Projects may include treatment facilities, pumping stations, pipelines, reservoirs, networks and associated civil, mechanical, electrical and process infrastructure.

Your responsibilities will include establishing design strategies, programmes, budgets and deliverables; coordinating internal designers, consultants, contractors and suppliers; and managing interfaces between civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, process and environmental disciplines. You will review and approve design submissions, specifications, calculations, drawings and technical reports, while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, client requirements and health, safety and environmental procedures. The role will also involve identifying and managing design risks, resolving technical issues, supporting value engineering, contributing to constructability reviews and maintaining effective change, document and quality-control processes. You will work closely with project managers, commercial teams and site personnel to ensure that design information is accurate, coordinated and issued on time.

Applicants should have substantial design management experience within the water, wastewater or wider infrastructure sector, together with a strong understanding of engineering design principles and project delivery. A relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification in civil, mechanical, electrical, process engineering or a related discipline is preferred. Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants is essential, as is the ability to interpret technical information and make sound, commercially aware decisions. Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder-management skills are required, along with confidence working in a regulated environment and managing competing priorities. Professional registration or progress towards chartered status would be advantageous. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable and collaborative professional to contribute to complex infrastructure schemes with lasting benefits for communities and the environment.
