Senior Biologist / Project Manager

We are seeking an experienced Senior Biologist / Project Manager to lead the delivery of biological and environmental projects from initial scoping through to completion. This is an opportunity for a technically strong professional who can combine scientific expertise with effective project leadership, client communication and commercial awareness. You will manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring that work is delivered to a high standard, on schedule and within budget.

Responsibilities will include developing project plans, budgets and technical approaches; coordinating field surveys, laboratory analysis, data interpretation and reporting; reviewing technical outputs; and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, permits and health and safety requirements. You will provide direction and mentoring to biologists and consultants, allocate resources, monitor project risks and resolve issues proactively. The role will also involve preparing proposals and tenders, contributing to business development, maintaining client relationships and presenting findings to clients, regulators and other stakeholders. Occasional travel and site-based work may be required.

Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in biology, ecology, environmental science or a related discipline, together with substantial professional experience in biological consultancy, environmental assessment, research or a comparable field. Demonstrable experience managing projects, budgets, programmes and multidisciplinary teams is essential. You will need strong knowledge of relevant ecological or biological methods, regulatory frameworks and technical reporting requirements, alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with environmental impact assessments, protected species surveys, habitat assessment, permitting or data analysis would be advantageous. A professional membership, project management qualification or relevant licence is desirable. We are looking for an organised, commercially aware and collaborative individual who can work independently, make sound technical decisions and build trusted relationships with colleagues and clients.
