Traveling Sewer and Water Superintendent
We are seeking an experienced Traveling Sewer and Water Superintendent to oversee sewer, water, and related underground utility construction projects across multiple locations. This role is responsible for coordinating daily field operations, maintaining production schedules, and ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and quality standards. Extensive travel between active project sites is required, with assignments potentially lasting several weeks or months.
The Superintendent will supervise crews, subcontractors, equipment operators, and suppliers while providing clear direction and maintaining effective communication with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and clients. Key responsibilities include reviewing plans and site conditions; coordinating excavation, trenching, shoring, pipe installation, manholes, lift stations, utility crossings, backfilling, and restoration; monitoring labor, materials, equipment, and schedules; documenting progress; conducting jobsite inspections; and resolving field issues promptly. The successful candidate will enforce site safety requirements, support toolbox talks and training, identify hazards, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, permits, and environmental controls.
Candidates should have several years of progressive experience supervising sewer, water, utility, or heavy civil construction projects, along with a strong understanding of underground construction methods, surveying practices, jobsite logistics, and construction documentation. The ability to read and interpret civil drawings, specifications, and schedules is essential. Strong leadership, decision-making, organizational, and communication skills are required, as is the ability to work independently in changing conditions and meet demanding deadlines. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively are required; additional industry certifications, competent-person training, or experience with GPS and project management systems are advantageous. The position involves outdoor work in varying weather, walking on uneven terrain, climbing, and occasionally lifting construction-related materials. A competitive compensation package and opportunities for long-term professional growth are available.
