Overview

We are partnering with a leading engineering consultancy to identify a Technical Manager - Structural Engineering to support and lead complex projects across dams, hydraulic structures, and waterfront infrastructure.

This is a senior-level opportunity for a structural engineering professional with deep technical expertise and leadership capability, looking to play a key role in design delivery, team development, and project execution across high-profile infrastructure programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design and technical delivery for dams, waterfront, and heavy civil infrastructure projects
  • Oversee structural investigations, analysis, design, and construction-phase engineering
  • Manage and develop structural engineering teams, supporting performance and growth
  • Conduct and review structural inspections and field assessments across project sites
  • Prepare and review:
    • Design calculations
    • Technical reports
    • Construction drawings and specifications
  • Develop design concepts, methodologies, and alternative solutions, including constructability reviews
  • Ensure QA/QC compliance and contribute to value engineering processes
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support on-time, on-budget delivery

Core Technical Scope

Projects will include the analysis and design of:

  • Dams and appurtenant hydraulic structures (intakes, outlet works, conveyance systems)
  • Waterfront structures (bulkheads, piers, marine infrastructure)
  • Heavy civil structures, including:
    • Cofferdams and shoring systems
    • Earth-retaining structures
    • Foundations (shallow, mat, pile caps)
    • Industrial and operational structures (pump houses, control buildings, powerhouse facilities)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 15+ years' experience in structural engineering, with a focus on dams, waterfront, or heavy civil infrastructure
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Reinforced concrete and steel structures
    • Waterfront and marine structures
    • Temporary works (cofferdams, shoring systems)
  • Proficiency with finite element analysis tools (e.g., STAAD, GT STRUDL or similar)
  • Experience using engineering software such as MathCAD, Enercalc, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of US design codes, standards, and dam safety guidelines
  • Proven ability to lead teams and deliver complex engineering projects

Desirable Experience

  • QA/QC review leadership on structural designs
  • Preparation of cost proposals across different delivery models
  • Experience with:
    • Gravity dams, retaining walls, gatehouses, outlet works
    • Post-tensioned anchor systems
  • Familiarity with guidance from agencies such as:
    • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
    • Bureau of Reclamation
    • Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
