Traveling Preconstruction Manager
Traveling Preconstruction Manager
We are seeking an experienced Traveling Preconstruction Manager to lead the planning and preparation of construction projects across multiple locations. This role will suit a commercially minded construction professional who can build effective relationships, manage competing priorities and deliver accurate, well-coordinated preconstruction strategies from early concept through to contract award.
You will work closely with clients, consultants, design teams, estimators, project managers and specialist contractors to ensure projects are properly defined, priced and prepared for successful delivery. Regular travel to project sites, meetings and regional offices will be required, with flexibility to support assignments across different locations.
Key responsibilities
- Manage preconstruction activities from initial enquiry and feasibility through to tender submission and handover.
- Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work and contract documentation to identify risks, opportunities and information gaps.
- Coordinate estimating, procurement, value engineering, design development, programming and constructability reviews.
- Develop and maintain preconstruction programmes, budgets, risk registers and reporting processes.
- Lead tender submissions, ensuring costs, methodologies, exclusions, assumptions and proposed programmes are clearly documented.
- Engage with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive and technically compliant proposals.
- Support negotiations and contribute to commercial strategies that protect project objectives and margins.
- Ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to the operational project team.
About you
You will have substantial experience in preconstruction, estimating, design management, quantity surveying or a related construction discipline. A strong understanding of construction methods, procurement routes, contracts, cost planning and programme development is essential. Experience delivering projects across sectors such as commercial, industrial, residential, healthcare or infrastructure would be advantageous.
Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills are required, together with the confidence to influence stakeholders and make sound decisions under pressure. You should be comfortable working independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team. A relevant construction, engineering or surveying qualification is desirable, alongside a full driving licence and willingness to travel regularly.
