Traveling General Superintendent
Traveling General Superintendent
An experienced Traveling General Superintendent is required to oversee the successful delivery of major construction projects across multiple locations. This is a highly visible leadership position, responsible for managing site operations, coordinating project teams and ensuring that work is completed safely, on programme and to the required quality standards.
The successful candidate will provide strong direction from mobilisation through to completion, working closely with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, consultants and clients. Regular travel and extended periods away from home will be required, depending on project demands and location.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and supervise day-to-day construction activities across assigned project sites.
- Coordinate general superintendents, site managers, engineers, forepersons, subcontractors and trade partners.
- Establish project priorities, monitor progress and implement recovery plans where necessary.
- Review drawings, specifications, schedules and construction methodologies to identify risks and opportunities.
- Ensure all works comply with approved plans, building regulations, contractual requirements and quality procedures.
- Promote a proactive health and safety culture, ensuring inspections, briefings and corrective actions are completed.
- Manage site logistics, sequencing, labour allocation, materials and plant to support efficient delivery.
- Attend progress meetings and provide clear updates on programme, productivity, quality, safety and commercial matters.
- Support the resolution of technical issues, design queries, variations, delays and disputes.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and project documentation throughout the construction lifecycle.
About you
You will have substantial experience leading large-scale construction projects, ideally across more than one sector or geographical area. A strong understanding of construction methods, contract administration, project controls and site safety is essential, together with the confidence to make informed decisions in a fast-moving environment.
Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are required. You should be commercially aware, able to build effective working relationships and comfortable managing competing priorities. Relevant construction or engineering qualifications, formal safety training and membership of a recognised professional body would be advantageous.
This role offers the opportunity to influence complex projects, develop high-performing teams and contribute to consistent standards of delivery across a varied portfolio of sites.
