We are seeking an experienced environmental planning professional to lead a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality advice and strategic solutions across a diverse portfolio of development and infrastructure projects. This senior role will involve shaping environmental planning strategy, managing complex assessments and providing trusted guidance to clients, stakeholders and project partners.
You will oversee projects from early feasibility through to consent, ensuring that environmental considerations are effectively integrated into planning, design and delivery. You will also contribute to business development, strengthen professional networks and support the continued growth and performance of the environmental planning function.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership across environmental planning, impact assessment and consenting projects.
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of environmental planners and technical specialists.
- Direct the preparation and review of environmental statements, screening and scoping reports, planning submissions and supporting technical documentation.
- Advise clients and project teams on environmental legislation, planning policy, risk management and consenting strategies.
- Manage project budgets, programmes, quality assurance and the performance of external consultants.
- Build effective relationships with regulators, local authorities, communities and other stakeholders.
- Identify new opportunities, contribute to bids and support the development of long-term client relationships.
About you
You will be a confident and commercially aware environmental planning leader with substantial experience in consultancy, development, infrastructure or a related planning environment. You should have a strong understanding of UK environmental legislation, planning processes and impact assessment requirements, together with a proven record of managing complex projects and multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent communication, influencing and report-writing skills are essential. You will be organised, collaborative and comfortable making sound decisions in a changing environment. A relevant degree and professional membership of a recognised planning or environmental body are desirable, alongside evidence of continued professional development.
This is an opportunity to play a leading role in shaping sustainable development outcomes while supporting innovation, technical excellence and the growth of a high-performing team.
