Principal Biologist - Leadership Opportunity


Position Overview
A well-established employee-owned environmental consulting firm is looking for a strategic hire of a seasoned Principal Biologist to join its Natural Resources team. This role requires a minimum of 15 years of relevant consulting experience, including at least 2 years in a Principal or similar senior leadership position. The successful candidate will be a skilled technical expert with strong business development capabilities, playing a vital role in project management, client relationship building, team leadership, and the delivery of high-quality biological services.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Business Development

Collaborate with firm leadership to drive strategic growth.

Develop new business opportunities, manage project budgets, and ensure high standards in project deliverables.

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.

Mentor, supervise, and guide technical staff within the Natural Resources team.

Technical Expertise & Project Management

Lead biological surveys, impact assessments, and technical reporting on wildlife, vegetation, and sensitive species.

Manage wetland delineations, agency permitting, and mitigation planning.

Provide technical review and quality control for deliverables, including CEQA/NEPA biological sections, habitat conservation plans, reports, and permit applications.

Oversee regulatory permitting and compliance, ensuring alignment with federal and state regulations.

Manage multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring timelines, budgets, and scopes are met.

Client & Regulatory Engagement

Represent the firm in client meetings and discussions with regulatory agencies.

Scope projects, prepare detailed proposals, and develop budgets aligned with client needs.

Lead habitat restoration planning and oversee mitigation monitoring efforts.

Technical Skills & Qualifications

Expertise in biological resource assessments (CEQA/NEPA), botanical and wildlife surveys, and wetland delineations.

Strong background in regulatory compliance, permitting, and mitigation for projects involving sensitive species and habitats.

Extensive knowledge of California flora and fauna.

Proficient in GIS data collection and analysis.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) in Biology, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or a related field.

15+ years of relevant consulting experience, including at least 2 years as a Principal or senior-level biologist.

Proven leadership, business development, and project management experience.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Expertise in federal and state regulations (e.g., Sections 404, 401, 1602; MSHCP/HCP/NCCP compliance).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and GIS software.

Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and access to a personal vehicle.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $150,000 to $200,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

The leading infrastructure recruitment specialist are looking for an Environmental Coordinator to join a global leader in construction sector for one of Norway's technical infrastructure projects involving roads, tunnels, bridges, drill and blast works.

Project

The infrastructure project is based on the West Coast of Norway and consist of the construction of several tunnels, bridges and highways, the construction has already started and is estimated to last for at least 2 more years.



Job Role / Responsibilities

Ensure that the design and operation of the project is in accordance with all applicable regulations, standards and permitsPreparation and update of environmental risk assessments with belonging risk-reducing measures, to avoid damage to the environmentPreparation and updating of routines and procedures for activities that may affect the external environmentPrepare contingency plans to prevent or reduce negative environmental impactPrepare control plans and checklistsFollow up construction work in the fieldEnsure that the environmental plans are updated and distributed in accordance with the project's progress and development, and in accordance with current guidelines and regulationsBe involved in case processing and follow-up of deviations related to environmentPerform site environmental inspections and audits and produce respective reportsCarry out required environmental monitoring (Air quality, Water Quality, Noise, Soil, etc)Analyse, compile and report environmental monitoring dataEnvironmental permit applications coordination and follow up its compliance

HSE duties

Address grievance of the employes within the respective teamDeal with conflicts within the department or escalate to the next level in case of a potential conflict of interests Participate in the prevention and follow up of sickness absence for the employees within the respective team

Your Profile:

Extensive East African Network: A well-established network of contacts in the East African renewable energy sector, especially within solar C&I and utility-scale solar.Proven experience in defining and executing high-level strategic roadmaps across various energy sectors, with a focus on solar energy projects in the region.Expertise in developing and executing business growth strategies, particularly in East and Anglophone Africa, leveraging your regional knowledge and industry connections.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, motivate teams, and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.Fluent in both English and French.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for the East African market, focusing on identifying and nurturing business opportunities in solar C&I and utility-scale solar projects.Identify and drive new business development opportunities, including greenfield, brownfield, and M&A initiatives, across East Africa and other key markets in Sub-Saharan Africa.Lead complex negotiations with key stakeholders, including partners, investors, financial institutions, and offtakers, ensuring alignment with business objectives.Prepare detailed decision-making reports and presentations for senior management, providing insights and recommendations on market opportunities and strategic directions.Oversee the recruitment, training, and management of project managers, ensuring successful project delivery.Enhance and optimize project development tools and processes to ensure efficient outcomes and continuous improvement.

Educational Qualifications:

Master's degree (Bac+5) in Commerce, Engineering, or Law preferred.

Experience Level:
