Senior Environmental Planning Project Manager
Senior Environmental Planning Project Manager
We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Planning Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex environmental planning projects across a varied portfolio. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident professional who can combine strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness, effective stakeholder engagement and outstanding project leadership.
You will manage projects from initial scoping and consenting strategy through to submission, determination and post-consent support. Working with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, clients, regulators and local communities, you will ensure that environmental considerations are integrated into project design and delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage environmental planning and assessment projects, ensuring delivery to agreed timescales, budgets and quality standards.
- Coordinate environmental impact assessments, planning applications, environmental statements and supporting technical documentation.
- Provide expert advice on planning policy, environmental legislation, consenting requirements and sustainable development principles.
- Manage project teams and specialist consultants, allocating resources and monitoring performance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, planning authorities, statutory consultees, local communities and other stakeholders.
- Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies and provide clear progress, financial and technical reporting.
- Support business development through proposal writing, fee preparation, client presentations and the development of new opportunities.
- Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to the continuous improvement of environmental planning processes and best practice.
About you
You will have substantial experience in environmental planning, consenting or environmental assessment, ideally gained within consultancy, infrastructure, development or a related professional environment. A relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification is required, alongside a strong understanding of UK planning and environmental regulations.
You should be an organised and persuasive communicator, capable of managing competing priorities and explaining complex issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience of leading multidisciplinary projects, managing budgets and engaging with regulators will be highly valued. Membership of a relevant professional body, such as the RTPI, IEMA or a related institution, would be advantageous.
In return, you will join a collaborative and forward-thinking team, with opportunities to influence significant projects, develop your expertise and progress your career in a supportive professional environment.
