Project Manager - Rail
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of rail infrastructure and engineering projects. This role will involve managing projects from initial planning and design through to construction, commissioning and handover, ensuring that work is delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
You will work closely with clients, contractors, design teams, suppliers and internal stakeholders to establish clear objectives, manage interfaces and resolve issues throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will be confident operating in a highly regulated environment and will bring strong commercial, technical and leadership skills to every stage of delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the planning, mobilisation and delivery of rail projects in accordance with approved budgets, programmes and specifications.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams, promoting effective communication, collaboration and accountability.
- Develop and maintain project programmes, risk registers, cost plans and progress reports.
- Monitor performance against key milestones, identifying and managing risks, opportunities, variations and potential delays.
- Coordinate design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning activities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant rail standards, health and safety legislation, quality procedures and environmental requirements.
- Build positive relationships with clients, supply chain partners, regulators and other project stakeholders.
- Support commercial management, contract administration and the resolution of project issues and claims.
- Provide clear updates to senior management and contribute to continuous improvement across project delivery.
About you
You will have proven experience managing rail, transport or major infrastructure projects, ideally within a contractor, consultancy or client-side environment. A recognised project management qualification, such as APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent, would be advantageous, as would experience of working under NEC or similar forms of contract.
You should be commercially aware, organised and capable of making sound decisions under pressure. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, together with a practical understanding of risk, programme and quality management. A relevant degree or professional qualification in engineering, construction or a related discipline is desirable.
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the delivery of complex rail projects while developing your career within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
