An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Project Engineer to support the delivery of large-scale solar energy projects from initial design through to construction, commissioning and handover. This role will suit an electrically qualified engineer with experience in renewable energy, power generation, utilities or a related engineering environment.

You will work closely with project managers, design consultants, contractors, suppliers and grid stakeholders to ensure electrical systems are designed, procured and installed safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant standards. The position involves a balance of technical engineering, project coordination and site-based support.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and review electrical designs for solar photovoltaic generation systems, including inverter stations, transformers, switchgear, cabling, protection and earthing systems.
  • Prepare and check technical specifications, calculations, drawings, schedules and tender documentation.
  • Support grid connection applications, technical assessments and compliance with applicable network and industry requirements.
  • Coordinate electrical design activities with civil, structural, mechanical and construction teams.
  • Review contractor and supplier submissions, manage technical queries and monitor progress against project requirements.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, testing and commissioning, including attending site inspections and resolving technical issues.
  • Ensure projects comply with health and safety legislation, quality procedures, environmental requirements and relevant British and international standards.
  • Contribute to project schedules, risk assessments, cost control and technical reporting.

About you

You will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering and ideally be working towards, or already hold, chartered or incorporated engineer status. Experience with solar PV, battery storage, substations, high-voltage systems or renewable energy projects would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of electrical power systems, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and confidence interpreting technical documentation. Experience using design or engineering software, together with excellent communication and organisational skills, is essential. A willingness to travel to project sites and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment is also required.

In return, you will have the opportunity to contribute to technically challenging renewable energy projects while developing your career in the growing clean energy sector.
