Renewable Energy Engineer – Solar/BESS

An exciting opportunity is available for a Renewable Energy Engineer specialising in solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS). This role will support the development, design, delivery and optimisation of renewable energy projects from early feasibility through to construction, commissioning and ongoing performance review.

You will work closely with internal teams, consultants, contractors, network operators and other project stakeholders to ensure that technical solutions are safe, compliant, commercially viable and delivered to a high standard. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to the growth of large-scale and distributed renewable energy infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and review technical designs for solar PV, BESS and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Undertake energy yield assessments, preliminary feasibility studies and technical due diligence.
  • Prepare and review specifications, tender documentation, technical reports and equipment schedules.
  • Assess system performance, degradation, availability and operational data, recommending improvements where required.
  • Support grid connection applications, network studies and compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Review designs and documentation produced by contractors, equipment suppliers and engineering consultants.
  • Provide technical support during procurement, construction, commissioning and handover activities.
  • Identify project risks and contribute to mitigation plans, cost reviews and programme development.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, market developments and best practice across solar and energy storage.

About you

You will be a qualified engineer or hold a relevant degree in electrical, renewable energy, power systems or a related discipline. Experience in solar PV, battery storage, grid integration or wider power infrastructure is essential, along with a sound understanding of electrical design principles and applicable UK standards.

Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills are required, together with the ability to manage priorities and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. Experience with technical modelling, design software, energy yield tools or project management systems would be advantageous. A proactive approach, attention to detail and willingness to travel to project sites when required are also important.
