Technical Services Field Engineer – Solar Inverter

An exciting opportunity is available for a Technical Services Field Engineer to provide specialist support for solar inverter systems across commercial, industrial and utility-scale renewable energy installations. This role will suit an electrically qualified engineer with practical field experience, strong diagnostic skills and a genuine interest in supporting the transition to clean energy.

You will be responsible for installing, commissioning, servicing and repairing solar inverter equipment at customer sites. Working independently and alongside project, engineering and service teams, you will ensure systems are operating safely, reliably and in accordance with technical and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out installation, commissioning, inspection, testing and preventative maintenance of solar inverter systems.
  • Investigate electrical, electronic, control and communication faults, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
  • Provide technical assistance to customers, contractors and internal teams by telephone, email and on site.
  • Review system performance data, alarms and diagnostic information to support efficient fault resolution.
  • Complete service reports, commissioning records, risk assessments and other technical documentation accurately.
  • Support product updates, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a high standard of health and safety, following site procedures, safe systems of work and relevant legislation.
  • Travel regularly to customer and project locations, with occasional overnight stays and potential out-of-hours support when required.

About you

You will have an electrical or electronic engineering qualification, or equivalent practical experience, together with knowledge of power electronics, renewable energy systems or industrial electrical equipment. Experience working with solar inverters, battery storage, grid connections or associated monitoring systems would be advantageous.

Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities are essential, as is the confidence to work at height or in challenging site environments where required. You should be customer-focused, well organised and able to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. A full driving licence and flexibility to travel are also required.

In return, you will receive comprehensive technical training, opportunities for professional development and the chance to contribute to projects that support a more sustainable energy future.
