An exciting opportunity is available for a Field Engineer to support the delivery, maintenance and improvement of water and wastewater infrastructure. This role will suit a practical and technically minded professional who enjoys working on site, coordinating with project teams and ensuring that construction and maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standards.
You will be responsible for overseeing field-based activities across a range of water and wastewater projects, from early installation through to commissioning and handover. The position involves regular travel to operational sites, working closely with engineers, contractors, suppliers and client representatives to resolve technical issues and maintain progress.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise and monitor site works, ensuring activities comply with approved designs, specifications and programmes.
- Coordinate contractors and subcontractors, including reviewing daily records, work plans and resource requirements.
- Inspect installations, equipment and materials to confirm quality and compliance with relevant standards.
- Assist with testing, commissioning, snagging and the preparation of handover documentation.
- Identify technical challenges, investigate defects and support the implementation of effective solutions.
- Maintain accurate site records, risk assessments, method statements and progress reports.
- Promote a strong health, safety and environmental culture across all work areas.
- Attend site meetings and communicate progress, risks and changes to relevant stakeholders.
About you
You will ideally hold a degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or a related discipline. Previous experience within the water, wastewater, utilities, construction or infrastructure sectors is highly desirable. A sound understanding of engineering drawings, construction methods, quality control and health and safety legislation is essential.
You should be confident working independently in the field, while also contributing effectively to a wider project team. Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are important, along with a willingness to travel and work flexibly across multiple sites. A full UK driving licence is required.
In return, you will receive opportunities for professional development, varied project experience and the chance to contribute to essential infrastructure that supports communities and the environment.
