Field Engineer
We are seeking a skilled and practical Field Engineer to support the installation, maintenance and improvement of technical equipment and systems across a range of customer sites. This role will suit someone who enjoys working independently, solving problems on location and delivering a high standard of service.
You will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive engineering activities, ensuring systems operate safely, efficiently and in line with required specifications. Regular travel will be involved, with occasional overnight stays depending on operational needs. You will work closely with customers, colleagues and external contractors, providing clear updates and professional technical support.
Key responsibilities
- Install, commission, inspect and maintain equipment and associated systems at customer sites.
- Diagnose faults, identify root causes and complete effective repairs within agreed timescales.
- Undertake testing, calibration and performance checks, recording findings accurately.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, schematics and specifications.
- Prepare service reports, risk assessments and other relevant technical documentation.
- Provide guidance to customers and colleagues on safe operation and routine maintenance.
- Manage site activities in accordance with health and safety, quality and environmental procedures.
- Escalate complex technical issues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
About you
You will have previous experience in a field-based engineering, maintenance or technical support role. A relevant engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience is desirable. You should be confident using diagnostic tools and able to work methodically under pressure while maintaining excellent attention to detail.
Strong communication and customer service skills are essential, together with the ability to organise your own workload and adapt to changing priorities. A full UK driving licence is required, and flexibility to travel is expected. Knowledge of relevant safety standards and experience working with electrical, mechanical or control systems would be advantageous.
In return, you will receive comprehensive training, opportunities for professional development and the chance to work on varied projects within a supportive technical environment.
