EHS Manager - Mainline Project
We are seeking an experienced EHS Manager to lead environmental, health and safety activities for a major mainline infrastructure project. This role will be responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and project standards, and providing visible leadership across construction, engineering and site operations. The successful candidate will work closely with project leadership, contractors, supervisors and workers to identify risks, implement effective controls and support the safe delivery of project objectives.
Key responsibilities will include developing, implementing and maintaining the project EHS management system, plans and procedures; coordinating risk assessments, method statements, audits, inspections and compliance reviews; and monitoring performance against agreed objectives and legal requirements. You will lead incident, near-miss and environmental event investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are completed. The role will also involve reviewing contractor EHS arrangements, delivering inductions and training, supporting emergency preparedness exercises, maintaining accurate records and producing regular performance reports for senior management. You will be expected to promote continual improvement and challenge unsafe behaviours or practices when necessary.
Applicants should have substantial EHS experience within construction, civil engineering, rail, transport or another complex infrastructure environment, together with a recognised qualification in occupational health and safety or a related discipline. Membership of a relevant professional body and additional environmental, auditing or incident investigation training would be advantageous. You should have a sound understanding of workplace safety legislation, environmental controls, contractor management and practical risk management. Strong communication, influencing and organisational skills are essential, along with the confidence to engage effectively at all levels. The position requires a proactive, collaborative individual who can work independently, manage competing priorities and maintain high standards in a demanding project environment. Regular site presence and travel between work areas may be required.
