Cultural Resources Group Manager – Nor CA
We are seeking an experienced Cultural Resources Group Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team delivering cultural resources and historic preservation services across Northern California. This role will oversee project development, technical quality, client relationships, and team performance while supporting a diverse portfolio of environmental, infrastructure, land-use, and public-sector projects. The successful candidate will bring strong knowledge of California cultural resources regulations, proven leadership capability, and a commitment to ethical, inclusive, and scientifically rigorous practice.
Responsibilities will include managing and mentoring cultural resources professionals, archaeologists, architectural historians, and supporting specialists; coordinating workloads, budgets, schedules, and quality control; and contributing to business development, proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates. You will direct or oversee cultural resources studies, archaeological surveys, site evaluations, significance assessments, impact analyses, monitoring programs, treatment plans, and compliance documentation. The role will also involve reviewing technical reports, ensuring adherence to applicable federal, state, and local requirements, and maintaining productive relationships with clients, agencies, tribal representatives, consultants, and community stakeholders. Occasional fieldwork and travel throughout Northern California may be required.
Applicants should have a degree in archaeology, anthropology, architectural history, historic preservation, or a related discipline, along with substantial professional experience in cultural resources management and increasing responsibility. A strong understanding of CEQA, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the National Register of Historic Places, California Register requirements, and relevant state and local regulations is expected. Experience supervising teams, managing multiple concurrent projects, and working with tribal cultural resources is highly valued. The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator and strategic thinker with excellent writing, organization, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Professional qualifications meeting applicable Secretary of the Interior’s Standards are preferred, as is experience with client development and regulatory agency coordination.
