You will direct or oversee cultural resources studies, archaeological surveys, site evaluations, significance assessments, impact analyses, monitoring programs, treatment plans, and compliance documentation. The role will also involve reviewing technical reports, ensuring adherence to applicable federal, state, and local requirements, and maintaining productive relationships with clients, agencies, tribal representatives, consultants, and community stakeholders. Occasional fieldwork and travel throughout Northern California may be required.

Applicants should have a degree in archaeology, anthropology, architectural history, historic preservation, or a related discipline, along with substantial professional experience in cultural resources management and increasing responsibility. A strong understanding of CEQA, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the National Register of Historic Places, California Register requirements, and relevant state and local regulations is expected. Experience supervising teams, managing multiple concurrent projects, and working with tribal cultural resources is highly valued. The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator and strategic thinker with excellent writing, organization, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Professional qualifications meeting applicable Secretary of the Interior’s Standards are preferred, as is experience with client development and regulatory agency coordination.

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Monitor and Designated Biologist to support construction and environmental projects on an as-needed basis throughout California. The successful candidate will help ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, project approvals, mitigation measures, and permit conditions, with particular emphasis on the protection of burrowing owls (BUOW) and their habitat.

Responsibilities may include conducting pre-construction surveys, nesting and wildlife monitoring, burrowing owl clearance surveys, and biological resource assessments; establishing and maintaining environmentally sensitive area controls; monitoring construction activities for compliance; documenting observations and potential impacts; and providing timely guidance to field crews, contractors, and project managers. The role may also involve preparing daily monitoring reports, incident documentation, photographic records, and technical summaries; coordinating with agency representatives; supporting relocation or avoidance measures where authorized; and recommending corrective actions when non-compliance or unexpected biological resources are identified. Work may occur in active construction environments, including locations with uneven terrain, noise, dust, and variable weather conditions.

Applicants should have a degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline, along with demonstrated experience in biological monitoring, environmental compliance, and California wildlife regulations. Specialized experience with burrowing owl biology, survey protocols, habitat assessment, and agency guidance is highly desirable. Candidates must be able to identify common California wildlife and plants, interpret permit and mitigation requirements, communicate clearly with field personnel, and produce accurate, well-organized documentation. A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, the ability to work flexible schedules including early mornings or occasional weekends, and readiness to travel to project sites are required. Applicable safety training, first-aid certification, and familiarity with construction compliance practices are advantageous.

We are seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Planner to lead the delivery of complex environmental planning projects and provide trusted advice on environmental assessment, approvals, and strategic planning matters. This role will suit a highly capable professional who can combine technical expertise with strong leadership, commercial awareness, and the ability to influence outcomes across multidisciplinary teams.

You will manage projects from inception through to approval and implementation, developing environmental assessments, impact statements, management plans, and supporting documentation. Key responsibilities include interpreting and applying relevant environmental legislation and planning instruments; coordinating technical specialists, consultants, stakeholders, and approval authorities; identifying environmental risks and opportunities; preparing clear, evidence-based recommendations; and ensuring projects meet statutory, quality, budget, and program requirements. You will also contribute to business development, prepare proposals and fee estimates, support strategic planning initiatives, and mentor junior and mid-level staff.

The successful candidate will hold relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental planning, environmental science, urban and regional planning, or a related discipline, with substantial experience delivering environmental planning and approvals projects. You will have strong knowledge of applicable planning and environmental legislation, assessment processes, and regulatory frameworks, together with excellent report-writing, analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills. Experience leading project teams, managing competing priorities, and providing high-quality advice to senior decision-makers is essential. A proactive, collaborative approach and a commitment to professional standards, sustainability, and positive environmental outcomes will be highly valued.

We are seeking an adaptable and conscientious On-Call Archaeologist to provide professional archaeological support across a varied programme of fieldwork. The role will involve responding to short-notice requirements, including watching briefs, evaluations, excavations, building recording and emergency site attendance. You will work alongside construction and development teams to identify, investigate and appropriately record archaeological remains while helping projects progress in accordance with agreed standards and legal requirements.

Your responsibilities will include preparing for and undertaking fieldwork; establishing site grids and levels; cleaning, identifying, recording and sampling archaeological features and deposits; completing written, drawn and photographic records; and maintaining accurate context, finds and environmental documentation. You will communicate clearly with supervisors, contractors, consultants and relevant authorities, raise potential issues promptly and contribute to post-excavation work, including data checking, finds processing, assessment, reporting and preparation of archives. The position may involve travel, outdoor working and occasional early starts, evening, weekend or overnight attendance, depending on operational needs.

Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in archaeology, or demonstrable relevant experience, together with practical experience of archaeological fieldwork and a sound understanding of professional standards, health and safety and the planning process. The ability to work independently at short notice, prioritise competing demands and remain calm in changing circumstances is essential. You should be physically capable of working on active construction sites and in varied weather conditions, hold a full driving licence where travel is required, and be willing to complete relevant site-safety training. Good written and verbal communication skills, accurate record-keeping and a collaborative approach are also important. A valid CSCS or equivalent card, professional membership and experience of commercial archaeology would be advantageous.
