We are seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Planner to lead the delivery of complex environmental planning projects and provide trusted advice on environmental assessment, approvals, and strategic planning matters. This role will suit a highly capable professional who can combine technical expertise with strong leadership, commercial awareness, and the ability to influence outcomes across multidisciplinary teams.
You will manage projects from inception through to approval and implementation, developing environmental assessments, impact statements, management plans, and supporting documentation. Key responsibilities include interpreting and applying relevant environmental legislation and planning instruments; coordinating technical specialists, consultants, stakeholders, and approval authorities; identifying environmental risks and opportunities; preparing clear, evidence-based recommendations; and ensuring projects meet statutory, quality, budget, and program requirements. You will also contribute to business development, prepare proposals and fee estimates, support strategic planning initiatives, and mentor junior and mid-level staff.
The successful candidate will hold relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental planning, environmental science, urban and regional planning, or a related discipline, with substantial experience delivering environmental planning and approvals projects. You will have strong knowledge of applicable planning and environmental legislation, assessment processes, and regulatory frameworks, together with excellent report-writing, analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills. Experience leading project teams, managing competing priorities, and providing high-quality advice to senior decision-makers is essential.
