Project Engineer - Water / Wastewater - Virginia Beach, VA
We are seeking a Project Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects in Virginia Beach, VA. This role will contribute to projects involving water distribution and treatment, sanitary sewer collection systems, pumping stations, stormwater infrastructure, and related utility improvements. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, technical specialists, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to deliver safe, practical, and cost-effective solutions.
Responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, schedules, cost estimates, and permit applications; assisting with the development of design concepts and construction documents; coordinating project tasks and maintaining documentation; supporting procurement and contractor selection activities; and responding to requests for information, submittals, and field issues during construction. You may also participate in site investigations, condition assessments, utility coordination, progress meetings, inspections, and construction administration. The role requires the ability to monitor budgets and schedules, identify risks, communicate project status, and help ensure that work complies with applicable codes, standards, safety requirements, and environmental regulations.
A bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or water resources engineering, or a closely related discipline, is required. Candidates should have professional experience with water, wastewater, utility, or municipal infrastructure projects and be familiar with engineering design software, technical specifications, and relevant state and federal regulations. Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, hydraulic modelling tools, or project management systems is desirable. A Professional Engineer license, or progress toward licensure, is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound technical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. Occasional travel to project sites and attendance at meetings may be required.
