Associate Water Resources Engineer

We are seeking an Associate Water Resources Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of water resources projects across a range of public and private sector clients. This role is suited to an early-career engineer who is keen to develop technical expertise while contributing to practical, sustainable solutions for flood risk management, drainage, stormwater, catchment planning, and water infrastructure. You will work as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, gaining exposure to projects from initial assessment and concept development through to detailed design, construction support, and completion.

Your responsibilities will include undertaking hydrologic and hydraulic assessments; preparing flood risk assessments, drainage strategies, stormwater management plans, and technical reports; developing design calculations, drawings, specifications, and schedules; and assisting with modelling using relevant industry software. You will help interpret survey, environmental, and geospatial information, review technical data, identify design risks, and contribute to cost estimates and project programmes. The role will also involve coordinating with project managers, engineers, planners, environmental specialists, contractors, regulators, and clients, as well as attending site visits and supporting inspections when required.

Applicants should hold a degree in civil engineering, water resources engineering, environmental engineering, or a related discipline, with relevant professional experience in water, drainage, flood risk, or civil infrastructure projects. Working toward professional registration or equivalent accreditation is desirable. You should have a sound understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, drainage principles, and applicable technical standards, together with experience using modelling, CAD, GIS, or other engineering design tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and a willingness to learn are essential. The successful candidate will be organised, proactive, and comfortable managing tasks within agreed budgets and deadlines while maintaining high standards of technical quality, health and safety, and professional conduct.
