ASSOCIATE OR SENIOR ARCHAEOLOGIST (Folsom or San Diego)
We are seeking an Associate or Senior Archaeologist to join a multidisciplinary environmental and cultural resources team based in Folsom or San Diego. This role is suited to an experienced professional who can lead archaeological investigations, support project delivery, and provide practical cultural resources advice across a range of development, infrastructure, and environmental projects in California.
Responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing cultural resources assessments, archaeological survey reports, technical memoranda, and regulatory documentation; conducting and overseeing archaeological surveys, monitoring, testing, excavation, and site evaluations; and coordinating with project managers, clients, Native American representatives, agencies, subcontractors, and field crews. You will help define research designs and treatment plans, assess project effects, support permitting and compliance under applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and contribute to construction monitoring and unexpected discovery procedures. The Senior level will also involve supervising staff, managing budgets and schedules, mentoring junior archaeologists, leading client communications, and contributing to proposals and business development.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a related discipline, along with professional experience in California archaeology and cultural resources management. A strong understanding of CEQA, NEPA, Section 106, the Secretary of the Interior’s professional qualification standards, and relevant state and local requirements is expected. Applicants should demonstrate excellent technical writing, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Fieldwork may require travel, overnight stays, uneven terrain, and varied weather conditions. A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet applicable professional, safety, and fieldwork requirements are also required. California archaeological experience, supervisory expertise, and qualifications as a Principal Investigator are desirable for the Senior position.
