Environmental Planner I
We are seeking an Environmental Planner I to support the delivery of environmental planning, assessment, and compliance activities across a range of projects. Working under the guidance of experienced planners and project managers, you will contribute to projects involving land use, infrastructure, development, natural resources, and community planning. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to build practical experience while developing technical, analytical, and communication skills.
Key responsibilities will include conducting research and site investigations; collecting, reviewing, and interpreting environmental, planning, and regulatory information; preparing technical reports, planning documents, environmental assessments, permit applications, and supporting materials; and assisting with impact analysis and the development of mitigation measures. You will help coordinate consultation with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, consultants, and community members, attend meetings and site visits, maintain project records, and track schedules, deliverables, and approvals. The role may also involve reviewing plans and technical studies for compliance with applicable legislation, policies, guidelines, and permit conditions.
The successful candidate will have a degree or diploma in environmental planning, urban and regional planning, environmental studies, geography, natural resources, or a related discipline, together with relevant internship, academic, or professional experience. Knowledge of environmental assessment processes, planning principles, permitting requirements, and applicable legislation is preferred. Strong research, writing, organization, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency with standard office software and familiarity with geographic information systems are advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate attention to detail, sound judgment, professionalism, and a commitment to responsible environmental stewardship. A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel to project sites may be required.
