Role Summary

We are seeking a technically strong, detail-driven Commercial Analyst with advanced Excel and financial modelling capability to support complex financing and commercial activities across renewable energy projects in Africa. This role is heavily analytical and model-centric, requiring the ability to design, audit, and interpret sophisticated financial models that underpin investment decisions, debt structuring, pricing strategy, and business planning.

The Analyst will play a critical role in debt origination and execution, including acquisition financing, refinancing, structured debt, and corporate funding - translating commercial strategy into robust financial frameworks that support investor and lender engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Debt Financing & Financial Modelling

  • Build, stress-test, and maintain advanced, lender-grade financial models supporting syndicated loans, mezzanine financing, and structured debt transactions.

  • Develop integrated project finance models incorporating cash flow forecasting, scenario analysis, sensitivities, and capital structuring.

  • Translate commercial and operational assumptions into defensible financial outputs.

  • Prepare data-driven investment materials, lender presentations, and internal memorandums grounded in model analysis.

  • Support due diligence processes by validating financial assumptions and coordinating with lenders, advisors, and legal teams.

  • Monitor debt market dynamics and incorporate macroeconomic factors into financial projections.

Investment Analysis & Transaction Support

  • Develop or adapt acquisition, divestment, and project evaluation models with clear audit trails and version control.

  • Model strategic financing scenarios, including capital structure optimization and return sensitivity analysis.

  • Support business planning through quantitative forecasting and performance modelling.

  • Conduct analytical market research to inform investment decisions.

  • Contribute financially rigorous inputs to board materials and investment approvals.

  • Review commercial project documentation (PPA/EPC) to ensure financial alignment.

  • Perform customer credit assessments using financial analysis and risk metrics.

  • Maintain structured project databases to support screening and modelling workflows.

  • Provide analytical reporting across management, investment, and finance functions.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop discount rate and hurdle rate frameworks using quantitative market analysis.

  • Support strategic transactions with modelling-driven insights and documentation.

  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives within a lean, execution-focused team.

  • Travel across Africa as required to support project and transaction activities.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Investment Analysis, or related quantitative discipline.

  • CFA Charterholder or active candidate is advantageous.

Preferred Skills & Attributes

  • Advanced Excel expertise with demonstrable experience building complex financial models from first principles.

  • Strong understanding of project finance modelling methodologies and transaction structures.

  • 3-5 years' experience in private equity, investment banking, corporate finance, or project finance roles with heavy modelling exposure.

  • Experience with leveraged finance, structured transactions, or infrastructure/project finance.

  • Familiarity with financing documentation, term sheets, and commercial contracts.

  • Excellent analytical discipline with strong model validation and error-checking practices.

  • High attention to detail and ability to translate quantitative analysis into decision-ready insights.

  • Strong written communication skills for producing investor-grade materials.

  • Self-directed, collaborative, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.

  • Interest in renewable energy and infrastructure investment.

Why This Role?

This position offers deep exposure to high-level financial modelling and complex financing transactions within Africa's renewable energy sector. You will work on analytically demanding projects that influence real infrastructure investment decisions, gaining experience in lender-grade modelling, strategic capital structuring, and transaction execution. For professionals motivated by rigorous financial analysis and real-world impact, this role provides a strong platform for growth and technical development.
