Forestry - Wildlife Biologist Aide
Forestry – Wildlife Biologist Aide
We are seeking a motivated and practical Wildlife Biologist Aide to support wildlife monitoring, habitat management and forestry-related fieldwork. This role is suited to someone with an interest in ecology and conservation who enjoys working outdoors, collecting accurate data and contributing to the protection of wildlife and natural habitats.
Working under the guidance of experienced biologists and forestry professionals, you will assist with field surveys, habitat assessments and routine monitoring activities. The post involves regular travel to woodland and rural locations, sometimes in challenging weather and terrain, so a sound level of physical fitness and a willingness to work flexibly are essential.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with wildlife, vegetation and habitat surveys in forests, wetlands and other natural areas.
- Set up, check and maintain monitoring equipment, camera traps and survey materials.
- Record, organise and verify field data using written records, spreadsheets and digital systems.
- Support the identification of plants, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.
- Help assess habitat condition and identify signs of wildlife activity, disturbance or environmental change.
- Assist with ecological site visits, sample collection and the preparation of basic reports.
- Follow health and safety, biosecurity, animal welfare and environmental protection procedures.
- Work cooperatively with colleagues, land managers, contractors and members of the public when required.
About you
You should have a relevant qualification or practical experience in wildlife management, ecology, forestry, environmental science or a related subject. An understanding of field survey techniques, species identification and habitat conservation is desirable. Experience using GPS devices, mapping software, spreadsheets or biological recording systems would be advantageous.
You will need strong observational and organisational skills, careful attention to detail and the ability to work independently while following instructions. A full driving licence, willingness to travel and flexibility to work occasional early mornings, evenings or weekends may be required. Training and appropriate support will be provided to help you develop in the role.
