We are seeking an Approved Wildlife Biologist to provide specialist ecological advice and support across a range of projects involving protected species, habitat management and environmental compliance. The successful candidate will plan, coordinate and undertake wildlife surveys, prepare technical reports, assess potential impacts, and recommend practical mitigation and enhancement measures. The role will involve working across varied sites and landscapes, sometimes in challenging field conditions and outside standard working hours.

Key responsibilities will include conducting and overseeing surveys for protected and notable species; evaluating survey findings and ecological constraints; preparing licensing and mitigation documentation; advising project teams, landowners, contractors and stakeholders; and ensuring activities comply with relevant wildlife legislation, planning conditions and best-practice guidance. You will contribute to habitat management plans, ecological impact assessments, method statements and monitoring programmes, while maintaining accurate records and clear audit trails. The role may also involve supervising field staff, reviewing technical work, supporting consultation with regulators, and helping to identify opportunities for biodiversity enhancement.

Applicants should hold a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience in ecology, wildlife conservation or a related discipline, together with proven experience of protected species survey and assessment. An appropriate approval or licence for relevant species is essential, alongside a sound understanding of applicable legislation, licensing requirements and ecological survey methodologies. Strong report-writing, data interpretation, organisation and communication skills are required, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively. A full driving licence and willingness to travel are expected. Experience managing subcontractors, coordinating multi-disciplinary projects, using GIS or ecological recording systems, and delivering work to agreed deadlines would be advantageous. The successful applicant will demonstrate sound professional judgement, attention to detail, a commitment to ethical wildlife management and the ability to provide clear, proportionate and evidence-based advice.
