Senior Biologist
Senior Biologist
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Biologist to lead high-quality biological research and support the development of innovative scientific programmes. This is an opportunity to contribute technical expertise, sound scientific judgement and effective project leadership within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
You will design, plan and deliver laboratory and, where appropriate, field-based studies in line with agreed objectives, timelines and quality standards. The role will involve interpreting complex biological data, preparing clear technical reports and presenting findings to colleagues, project stakeholders and external partners. You will also contribute to the development of new methods, protocols and research strategies.
Key responsibilities
- Lead biological research projects from experimental design through to data analysis and reporting.
- Develop, optimise and validate laboratory methods, ensuring robust and reproducible results.
- Apply appropriate statistical and scientific approaches to interpret experimental findings.
- Maintain accurate records, study documentation and laboratory information in accordance with relevant procedures.
- Support risk assessments, quality management, health and safety requirements and regulatory compliance.
- Supervise, coach and provide technical guidance to junior scientists and laboratory staff.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across research, analytical, operational and project teams.
- Contribute to scientific publications, presentations, funding proposals and continuous improvement initiatives.
About you
You will hold a degree in biology, biological sciences or a related discipline, ideally with postgraduate research experience. Demonstrable experience in a relevant laboratory, research or applied science setting is essential, together with a strong understanding of experimental design, data analysis and scientific documentation.
You should be organised, curious and confident working independently while contributing positively to a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, alongside the ability to manage competing priorities and explain complex scientific information clearly. Experience of mentoring colleagues, managing projects and working within regulated or quality-controlled environments would be advantageous.
In return, you will have the opportunity to develop your expertise, work on meaningful scientific projects and contribute to a supportive culture focused on quality, collaboration and professional growth.
