This role will suit a technically capable professional who can apply sound engineering judgement, communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders and support solutions that improve the resilience of water infrastructure and the wider environment.
You will work across a varied portfolio of projects, supporting clients, project teams and delivery partners from initial feasibility through to detailed design, construction and completion. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their technical expertise while contributing to projects involving flood risk management, drainage, surface water, water supply, river restoration and climate adaptation.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake hydrological and hydraulic assessments, modelling and calculations using appropriate industry-standard tools.
- Prepare technical reports, design specifications, drawings, schedules and cost estimates.
- Support the development of flood risk, drainage and water management strategies.
- Contribute to feasibility studies, optioneering, risk assessments and environmental appraisals.
- Coordinate with engineers, environmental specialists, planners, contractors, regulators and other stakeholders.
- Assist with project management, programming, quality assurance and commercial monitoring.
- Interpret legislation, guidance and technical standards, ensuring designs meet relevant requirements.
- Support site inspections, surveys and construction-stage activities where required.
About you
You will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, water engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline. Experience in water resources, flood risk, drainage or hydraulic modelling is desirable, together with a working knowledge of relevant UK standards, guidance and regulatory processes.
You should be confident analysing technical information, producing clear written work and presenting recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences. Membership of a relevant professional body, or progress towards professional registration, would be advantageous. A proactive approach, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential. This role may involve occasional travel to project and client sites.
