Civil Project Engineer II/III - Water & Wastewater
Civil Project Engineer II/III – Water & Wastewater
An exciting opportunity is available for a Civil Project Engineer to support the planning, design and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role is suited to an experienced engineer seeking responsibility for technically challenging schemes, client engagement and the development of sustainable solutions that improve essential public services.
Depending on experience, you will contribute to or lead projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, procurement and construction support. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, clients and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the required technical standards.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and review civil engineering designs for water and wastewater treatment, pumping stations, pipelines, storage facilities and associated infrastructure.
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, specifications, drawings, schedules and cost estimates.
- Coordinate design activities across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and environmental disciplines.
- Support surveys, site investigations, condition assessments and options appraisals.
- Assist with planning, programming, risk management, change control and project reporting.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers and contribute to quality assurance reviews.
- Attend site visits and construction meetings, responding to technical queries and assessing works against approved designs.
- Build effective working relationships with clients, regulators, contractors and other project stakeholders.
About you
You will hold a degree in civil engineering or a related discipline and have relevant experience in the water or wastewater sector. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or active progress towards professional registration, would be advantageous. You should be confident using industry-standard design and project management software and have a sound understanding of UK water industry standards, health and safety requirements and applicable environmental legislation.
Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are essential. You will be expected to manage priorities, work collaboratively and demonstrate sound engineering judgement. A willingness to travel to project and client sites, with a full UK driving licence where required, is desirable.
