Lead Water Systems Engineer, DC Design Engineering

An exciting opportunity is available for a Lead Water Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership across the design and delivery of water systems for complex data centre developments. You will work within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, supporting projects from early feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, construction and commissioning.

The role will involve developing robust, efficient and resilient water infrastructure solutions, ensuring that designs meet operational requirements, applicable standards and project timescales. You will collaborate with internal teams, consultants, contractors and specialist suppliers to deliver high-quality engineering outcomes across multiple workstreams.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the design of potable water, process water, drainage, fire water and wastewater systems for data centre facilities.
  • Develop design philosophies, specifications, calculations, schematics, layouts and technical documentation.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with relevant UK legislation, standards, codes and client requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers and designers, promoting consistency, quality and best practice.
  • Coordinate water systems with architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and controls disciplines.
  • Assess technical risks, resolve design issues and support value engineering without compromising resilience or performance.
  • Contribute to equipment selection, procurement specifications, tender reviews, factory acceptance testing and commissioning activities.
  • Attend design reviews, site meetings and inspections, providing clear technical input and maintaining accurate project records.

About you

You will be a professionally qualified engineer or hold a relevant degree in civil, mechanical, building services or water engineering. Significant experience designing water and drainage systems is essential, ideally within data centres, mission-critical facilities, industrial environments or other highly resilient infrastructure projects.

You should have strong knowledge of hydraulic principles, system modelling, British Standards, industry guidance and relevant regulatory requirements. Experience with design software, technical assurance processes and multidisciplinary project delivery is desirable. Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder-management skills are required, together with the ability to lead technical discussions and make sound engineering decisions under pressure.

This is an opportunity to influence the design of critical infrastructure while working on technically demanding projects with a strong focus on safety, sustainability, reliability and continuous improvement.
