Water/Wastewater Project Engineer

We are seeking a Water/Wastewater Project Engineer to support the planning, design, delivery and commissioning of infrastructure projects across the water and wastewater sector. This role will involve working on a range of schemes, which may include treatment facilities, pumping stations, pipelines, storage assets and network improvements. You will contribute to projects from initial feasibility and concept development through detailed design, construction and handover, ensuring that solutions are technically sound, compliant and delivered to agreed standards.

Key responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing technical reports, calculations, specifications, drawings and schedules; developing cost estimates, programmes and risk assessments; coordinating inputs from multidisciplinary design teams, contractors, clients and regulatory stakeholders; and providing technical support during procurement and construction. You will monitor progress, identify and resolve engineering issues, support site inspections and respond to technical queries and design changes. The role will also involve maintaining accurate project records, contributing to design reviews and ensuring that health, safety, environmental and quality requirements are embedded throughout project delivery.

The successful candidate will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil, environmental, process or water engineering, together with relevant experience delivering water or wastewater projects. You should have a sound understanding of hydraulic principles, treatment processes, pipeline and pumping systems, construction methods and applicable industry standards. Experience with design and project management software, technical documentation and multidisciplinary coordination is desirable. Strong communication, analytical and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively with colleagues, clients and delivery partners. Professional registration or progress towards chartered status would be advantageous.
