Structural Engineer (Water/Wastewater)
We are seeking a Structural Engineer to support the design and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role will involve working across a varied portfolio, including treatment works, pumping stations, reservoirs, water-retaining structures, process buildings, pipework support systems and associated civil infrastructure. You will contribute to projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, construction support and completion, ensuring that solutions are safe, practical, sustainable and compliant with relevant standards.
Your responsibilities will include preparing structural calculations, specifications, drawings, schedules and technical reports; undertaking inspections and condition assessments; developing design options and recommending appropriate solutions; and coordinating structural work with civil, mechanical, electrical and process disciplines. You will review technical information, assess existing structures, support surveys and site investigations, respond to construction queries and provide technical input during project delivery. The role may also involve mentoring less experienced engineers, contributing to design reviews, supporting cost and programme planning, and communicating with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders.
Applicants should hold a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and have relevant experience in the design, assessment or delivery of structures associated with water, wastewater or other infrastructure projects. Experience with reinforced concrete, steelwork, water-retaining structures, foundations and structural assessments is desirable, along with knowledge of applicable design codes, health and safety requirements and industry guidance. Professional registration, or a clear commitment to achieving it, would be advantageous. You should be confident using structural analysis and design software, as well as standard drawing and document-production tools. Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are essential, together with the ability to manage priorities, work collaboratively and produce accurate technical work to agreed deadlines. A willingness to visit operational sites and construction locations may be required.
