TBM Mechanical Superintendent

We are seeking an experienced TBM Mechanical Superintendent to oversee the mechanical delivery, maintenance and safe operation of tunnel boring machine systems on a major underground construction project. This role will provide hands-on leadership to mechanical teams working across TBM assembly, commissioning, excavation, maintenance, recovery and relocation activities. The successful candidate will ensure that all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved procedures, technical specifications and project schedules.

Key responsibilities will include supervising mechanical installation and maintenance activities; coordinating daily work fronts with tunnelling, electrical, production and site management teams; reviewing method statements, inspection and test plans, risk assessments and lifting plans; and ensuring that plant, tools and materials are available when required. You will monitor TBM performance, identify mechanical faults, coordinate troubleshooting and repairs, and support planned and preventive maintenance programmes. The role will also involve managing specialist subcontractors, allocating manpower, checking completed work, maintaining accurate records and contributing to progress reporting, technical reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

Applicants should have substantial experience in a senior mechanical supervisory or superintendent role within tunnelling, heavy construction, mining or other major infrastructure environments. Proven experience with TBMs, large-scale mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, mucking arrangements, cutterhead-related equipment and underground construction plant is highly desirable. A relevant mechanical engineering or technical qualification, strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation are expected. You should be confident leading multicultural teams in demanding site conditions, capable of making sound decisions under pressure and committed to maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and equipment reliability. Flexibility to work shifts, extended hours or rotational arrangements may be required.
