Rail Systems Test & Commissioning Manager
We are seeking an experienced Rail Systems Test & Commissioning Manager to lead the planning, coordination and delivery of testing and commissioning activities across complex rail infrastructure and rolling stock projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive test and commissioning strategies, ensuring that all systems are verified, validated and ready for safe operational use in accordance with project requirements, technical standards and regulatory obligations.
Key responsibilities will include managing test and commissioning plans, programmes, procedures, resources and budgets; coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors, suppliers and project stakeholders; and overseeing the integration and testing of systems such as signalling, train control, communications, power, platform systems, passenger information and other operational technologies. You will review technical documentation, risk assessments, method statements and test records, while ensuring that testing is conducted safely, efficiently and with full traceability. The role will also involve managing defects and non-conformances, monitoring progress against milestones, supporting system integration activities, leading readiness reviews and producing clear reports for project and operational leadership. You may also provide technical input during trial operations, handover, safety assurance and final acceptance.
Applicants should have substantial experience in rail systems testing and commissioning, ideally gained on major railway, metro, light rail or transport infrastructure programmes. A strong understanding of systems integration, verification and validation, railway safety requirements, configuration management and engineering assurance is essential. You will need proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating activities across multiple interfaces, together with excellent planning, communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills. Relevant engineering or technical qualifications are required, and professional registration or recognised project, safety or commissioning certification would be advantageous. The ability to work collaboratively in a demanding project environment, manage competing priorities and maintain a strong focus on safety, quality and operational performance is essential.
