Project Manager - Roads

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Roads to lead the successful delivery of road infrastructure projects from planning and procurement through to construction, completion and handover. You will manage projects safely, efficiently and within agreed time, cost and quality parameters, while working closely with clients, consultants, contractors, local authorities and other stakeholders. The role will involve overseeing multiple projects and ensuring that all works meet contractual, technical, environmental and regulatory requirements.

Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining project programmes, budgets, risk registers and procurement plans; coordinating design development and technical approvals; managing contracts, variations, claims and payment processes; and monitoring progress against key milestones. You will chair progress meetings, prepare clear reports for senior stakeholders, resolve issues promptly and maintain accurate project records. You will also oversee site activities, ensuring effective health and safety management, traffic management, quality assurance, environmental controls and compliance with relevant standards. A strong focus on stakeholder engagement will be essential, particularly where works affect residents, road users, businesses and public services.

Applicants should have significant experience managing road, highway or civil engineering projects, ideally from feasibility and design through to construction and close-out. A relevant qualification in civil engineering, construction management, project management or a related discipline is desirable, together with proven knowledge of NEC or other major construction contracts. You will need strong commercial, financial and programme management skills, excellent communication and negotiation abilities, and the confidence to make sound decisions in a complex project environment. Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing contractors is essential. A professional project management or engineering accreditation would be advantageous. You must be highly organised, proactive and committed to delivering safe, sustainable and high-quality infrastructure outcomes.
