Estimating Manager

We are seeking an experienced Estimating Manager to lead the preparation, review and submission of accurate, commercially sound estimates for a diverse range of projects. This is a key role responsible for managing the estimating function, supporting business development and ensuring that tenders are delivered on time, within scope and in line with agreed commercial objectives. You will work closely with project management, procurement, engineering and senior leadership teams to develop competitive and robust proposals.

Your responsibilities will include managing the estimating team, allocating workloads and maintaining consistent processes, standards and quality controls. You will review tender documentation, specifications, drawings and schedules; identify risks, exclusions, assumptions and opportunities; and prepare detailed cost plans, bills of quantities, labour and material estimates. You will obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations, negotiate where appropriate, and ensure all pricing reflects current market conditions, project requirements and contractual obligations. You will also contribute to tender strategy, value engineering, bid presentations and post-tender negotiations, while maintaining accurate records and supporting lessons-learned activities.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in estimating, ideally within a construction, engineering, manufacturing or related project environment, together with proven experience managing or mentoring an estimating team. Strong commercial awareness and the ability to interpret technical information are essential, as are excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills. You will be confident using estimating and cost-management software, spreadsheets and standard office applications, with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail. The ability to prioritise competing deadlines, influence stakeholders and make sound commercial judgements is also required. A relevant technical, commercial or construction qualification is desirable, along with membership of an appropriate professional body.
